PLACE : YELAGIRI HILLS,DATE : 3 & 4 OCT 2009

Yelagiri hill is one of the popular hill stations of Tamil Nadu.  Situated amidst four mountains well known for its salubrious climate prevail throughout the year.  Tribal people live in villages in these hills.

If you travel the winding Ghat road that has 14 hairpin bends you can reach the Yelagiri hilltop.  The hairpin bends offer panoramic, breath taking views of the hills and its surroundings.

The seventh bend is significant, since it offer the view of the slopes of the mountain and the green forests that carpet the hill.

Yelagiri comprises 14 small villages. The tribal people who live here are engaged in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, etc.

Their customs, habits, and the structure if their houses are very unique and attract tourists

Places of Interest

Punganoor Lake and Boating & Park :

An artificial Lake sitiated in the center of the Yelagiri Hills having 56.70 Sq.mt. area is called Punganoor Lake. The Yelagiri Hill development and Tourism Promotion Socity maintains, the Park and Boating facility in the lake. Fountain in the center if the lake is an added attraction. Inside the Garden Children Play materials are installed to recreate the kids.

Herbal Farm :

Near the Punganoor Lake, a herbal farm, is maintained by the forest Drepartment With rare herbals used in the Sidda and Ayurvadic medical treatments.

Park Near the Kodai Vizha Thidal :

A Good Park is being formed at Kodai Vizha Thidal to enterain Tourists.

Paran, Telescope :

At the entrance of the Ghat Road a telescope has been installed to enable the tourists to view the deep slope, green valley and Jolarpet palins.

Velavan Temple :

Lord Murugan Temple, situated is om\ne of the highest peaks of the Yelagiri Hills offers panoramic view of the entire hill area. Kadothkajan is standing posture in front if this temple is a an note attraction for the tourists. Velavan temple festival during the month of July is being celebrated in a grand manner every year. Local People and devotees gather here in god so.

Jalagamparai Water Falls :

The river ‘Attaru’ in the Yelagiri hill flows down at Jadayanur after height of 30 mts. Bathing in this Waterfalls cure many diseases because it passes through various herbal plants in the hills. One can reach this waterfalls by a trek route Kmt. from Nilavur in the hills.

A temple in the shape of Shivalinga with the deity of Lord Muruga is situated near the waterfalls. From this falls one can reach Tirupathur by Bus.

Trekking :

This small and beautiful hill station offres the best opportunity for trekking and mountaineering. It is endowed With some trekking routes through reserved forest leading to beautiful Sports Like waterfalls, Peak points, Valley view points etc.,

1.Punganoor - Nilavur Jalagamparai - 14 Km

2.Punganoor Swamimalai Hill - 6 Km

3.Mangalam to Swamimalai - 2 Km

4.Information Center to Koosi Kuttai - 1.5 Km

5.Puthur to Perumadu Waterfalls - 3 Km

6.Boat House to Pulicha Kuttai - 3 Km

7.Nilavur to Kardimunai - 1.5 Km

About Kolli Hills :

Kolli Hills is a small mountain range located in central Tamil Nadu in India. The mountains are about 1000 to 1300 m in height and cover an area of approximately 280 km².The Kolli Hills has 72 hair pin bends to reach the top of the hills. The Kolli Hills are part of the Eastern Ghats, which is a mountain range that runs mostly parallel to the east coast of South India. The mountains are relatively untouched by tourism and still retain their natural beauty.
